Lalah Hathaway is up for the Grammy Awards in the 23rd Category, that is the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. The singers that have been included are for their solo vocal performances in singles or tracks only.
Along with Lalah Hathaway, the other people who are up for the Grammy nominations in the same category are Beyonce, Melanie Fiona, Ledisi and Jazmine Sullivan. While Beyonce has been nominated for Single Ladies, Melainie Fiona’s It Kills me has brought her to the Grammys. Ledisi and Jazmine Sullivan have been nominated courtesy their Goin’ Thru Changes and Lions, Tigers & Bears respectively.
Lalah Hathway’s song that has her nominated, belongs to the album, Self Portrait that she released in the March of 2008. The relevant song was the album’s second single which was released in the later half of 2008. The song made it to the Hot R&B charts at #105 with its debut. The popularity of “That was then” could also be credited to the fact that just after the song’s release, the singer went on a tour and even appeared on BETJ.
If Lalah Hathaway does bag the award it would indeed be a stepping stone in her career.
